Nico Sturm was helped off the ice after taking a puck to the head, leaving Ryan Craig's Golden Knights with a frightening scene.

It happened Monday against the Minnesota Wild, with Sturm battling around the crease when the puck struck the side of his head.

Let's not forget, his teammate Brock Faber fractured his skull weeks back due to taking a shot to the same side of the head.

“this isn't just a cracked bone. There was a lot of stuff that was very scary behind the scenes”.

Seems like we have gone from “I hope he has a speedy recovery” to “I hope this doesn't affect him the rest of his life.” Prayers up for Faber #mnwild

Blood was visible as trainers reached the Vegas center. The entire arena went silent while they helped him off the ice.

The change was instant. A crowded net-front play gave way to concern for a player who couldn't simply skate away and prepare for his next shift.

Sturm was surrounded by defenders, sticks and skates. In that tight space, the puck reached an exposed part of his head before he could get clear.

His teammates had to watch the medical response unfold from close range. Whatever was happening on the scoreboard suddenly mattered a lot less than getting Sturm safely away.

Nico Sturm's frightening exit leaves Vegas waiting

For Craig, the bench immediately had another problem. Vegas needed to cover Sturm's shifts while waiting for any word on his condition.

Sturm plays center, a position tied to faceoffs, defensive-zone assignments and bottom-six matchups. Even a temporary absence can force a coach to move players into unfamiliar situations.

The video catches Sturm battling beside the Wild net, hemmed in by traffic, as the puck strikes him high. Trainers then help him away from the play.

The blood made the scene alarming, but appearances can't establish the extent of an injury. The clip doesn't provide a diagnosis or any indication of when he might return.

That distinction matters. A player getting assistance off the ice isn't the same as an announced long-term absence, and there is no reason to jump ahead of a medical assessment.

If Sturm cannot return, the Golden Knights will have to spread his responsibilities across the remaining forwards. That could affect faceoff choices and how Craig manages the bench late in the game.

The reaction in Minnesota was striking because both teams were caught in the same uncomfortable wait. The sight of trainers attending to Sturm overshadowed everything else happening on the ice.

Vegas can solve its lineup questions later. For now, the lasting image is Sturm leaving with help, and the next update that matters is news about his health.
