Connor Hellebuyck wants out of Winnipeg, but head coach Scott Arniel and the Jets aren't preparing for a discounted departure.

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, the Jets have maintained their original asking price for the star goaltender, making it clear that any interested team must offer significant immediate help.

Speaking on NHL Tonight, Pagnotta explained that Winnipeg wants established NHL players in return, potentially including two second-line-caliber pieces alongside younger assets.

That demand creates a difficult situation for teams hoping to acquire Hellebuyck. Winnipeg isn't interested in simply collecting draft picks and prospects while weakening its current roster.

"David Pagnotta: Re Connor Hellebuyck trade request: I don't think the price has changed; they want immediate help as part of a package; a 2nd line calibre player, maybe 2, which was the original cost, along with additional young assets; does that shift"

Jets want an immediate impact player in exchange for Connor Hellebuyck

General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff wants players who can contribute immediately, giving the Jets a chance to remain competitive even after losing their franchise goaltender.

Hellebuyck reportedly requested a trade in late August, but Winnipeg has refused to let that pressure dictate negotiations. The organization believes his value justifies waiting for the right package.

The situation becomes even more complicated because Hellebuyck holds a full no-movement clause. Any potential trade requires his approval, giving the goaltender considerable influence over his next destination.

His contract also carries an $8.5 million annual cap hit through the 2030-31 season, adding another obstacle for interested clubs trying to fit him into their payroll structure.

The Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes and Utah Mammoth have been connected to the situation. Each would need to surrender valuable roster pieces while securing Hellebuyck's approval.

Meanwhile, the Jets have opened their season with a 4-1-1 record, giving management little reason to rush into a deal that doesn't address the team's immediate needs.

Winnipeg has scored 18 goals while allowing 17, highlighting the importance of maintaining a competitive roster rather than accepting a package built exclusively around future potential.

For Arniel, losing an elite starting goaltender would create an enormous challenge inside the locker room. Getting proven NHL talent back could help soften the impact across the lineup.

The longer negotiations continue, the more attention will turn toward Cheveldayoff's willingness to compromise. For now, the message remains clear: acquiring Hellebuyck will require a substantial return, and Winnipeg isn't backing down.
