Simon Edvinsson wants around $11 million per season on a seven-year deal, according to David Pagnotta, a big ask for the Red Wings.

Pagnotta shared the number on DFO Insider on Oct. 14, and it changes the conversation.

That figure would sit well above Dylan Larkin's $8,700,000 cap hit, currently the highest on Detroit's roster.

Detroit shouldn't pay it. A player who wants out and is asking for top-of-market money doesn't leave the club much reason to say yes.

It's like a tenant who wants out of the lease demanding the landlord repaint the place first.

Edvinsson remains unsigned and back in Sweden, and Elliotte Friedman said his preference is still a trade.

Detroit still prefers to sign him, while TSN's Pierre LeBrun has reported that 10 teams have poked around.

Simon Edvinsson contract demands revealed by NHL insider David Pagnotta

Erik Karlsson carries an $11,500,000 cap hit in Pittsburgh, the top mark among defensemen.

Rasmus Dahlin and Drew Doughty sit at $11,000,000 apiece.

Thomas Harley is at $10,587,500, and Evan Bouchard at $10,500,000.

Moritz Seider, Detroit's highest-paid defenseman, carries an $8,550,000 cap hit.

Marco D'Amico has said acquiring Edvinsson would cost Montreal more than it paid for Noah Dobson, who carries a $9,500,000 cap hit.

Any team trading for him would be paying twice, once in assets and once on the cap.

Boston has been linked to him, and Edmonton Journal columnist Jim Matheson pitched the Oilers as a fit.

Friedman has also floated the idea that Edvinsson could open the door to two trades in Detroit, not just one.

Detroit is 1-3-2 and has scored just 14 goals.

Shawn Horcoff has said he'd rather re-sign the defenseman than move him.

Is a seven-year commitment at that price worth it for a player who hasn't suited up this season?

The Red Wings host Philadelphia tonight, still searching for answers on the blue line and up front.

The number is out there now. Every one of those 10 teams just found out what the real price looks like.
