The Buffalo Sabres have finalized a deal for Connor Hellebuyck, according to a Monday night report from 4am Media.
The reported package sends Ryan McLeod, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2028 third-rounder and goaltender Alex Lyon the other way to Winnipeg.
One catch. The same report says the whole thing hinges on Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen landing with the New York Rangers, and that piece is described as a Texas standoff.
The sourcing rests on a single account credited as @PegulaSE. Until Jarmo Kekalainen or Kevin Cheveldayoff puts a name on it, this is smoke. Thick smoke, though.
Because Buffalo's crease has been a mess. The Sabres have allowed 34 goals through nine games and sit fifth in the Atlantic at 4-3-2.
Luukkonen owns an .860 save percentage across seven appearances. Colten Ellis hasn't been much of a rescue at .864, and he's still looking for his first win.

Igor Shesterkin's knee injury opens the Rangers' door to Luukkonen
The New York angle makes sense on paper. Igor Shesterkin is on injured reserve with a knee injury and is listed as out for the season.
Joonas Korpisalo is also on IR, out until at least Nov. 9. That leaves Mike Sullivan leaning on Dylan Garand, who's been terrific with a .929 save percentage and a shutout.
And the Rangers keep winning anyway. They're 7-3-1 and a perfect 6-0-0 on home ice, which gives Chris Drury every reason to haggle.
Buffalo would be shipping out Luukkonen's $4,750,000 cap hit. New York holds the leverage of a hot backup. So who blinks?
Now the Winnipeg side. Hellebuyck carries an $8,500,000 cap hit, fourth-highest among NHL goaltenders, and the Jets would take back $6,500,000 between McLeod and Lyon.
McLeod hasn't exactly forced Buffalo to keep him. He has two points in nine games and has gone minus-6.
Lyon gives the Jets a veteran with a recent track record. He went 20-10-4 with a .907 save percentage for Buffalo last season and is signed through 2026-27.
Winnipeg's current tandem is Stuart Skinner and Clay Stevenson. Skinner has three wins in five appearances, and the Jets carry a two-game skid into St. Louis tonight.
Here's the problem from Winnipeg's chair. Trading Hellebuyck for a depth forward, a 33-year-old goalie and a pick two drafts away feels like selling the house and keeping the lawn furniture.
Kyle Connor has eight goals in eight games. Scott Arniel's group isn't built to absorb a downgrade in the crease while its top scorer is this hot.
For Buffalo, Lindy Ruff would get a goalie capable of hauling a team allowing 3.8 goals per game back into the race.
The Sabres and Jets haven't met yet this season. Their first matchup is Jan. 4 in Buffalo.
Buffalo hosts Philadelphia on Wednesday night. Who's standing in the Sabres' crease for that one depends on whether the standoff with New York breaks.
Should the Jets really move Connor Hellebuyck for Ryan McLeod, Alex Lyon and a 2028 first?
