Martin St-Louis has Adam Engstrom in for Arber Xhekaj tonight in St. Louis, and the Montreal Canadiens have a Red Wings executive watching again.

Kris Draper, Detroit's assistant GM, is taking in his third of four Canadiens games.

Oliver Kapanen is back in his spot too, and Jacob Fowler gets the net.

The club hasn't given an official reason for the changes.

Plenty of people see a showcase for Engstrom, and some are reading the Kapanen move the same way.

To be clear, those are theories. Nothing confirms Montreal is shopping Engstrom, or that Draper is tracking him specifically.

Still, three games out of four is like the same guy browsing your garage sale three weekends in a row. At some point, you just ask what he wants.

Jacob Fowler gets the net as Montreal chases a third straight win

The 21-year-old owns a .924 save percentage and a shutout.

He's won 5 of his 6 appearances.

Fowler should be the No. 1 right now, full stop. Jakub Dobes sits at .847, and that gap isn't subtle.

So what exactly is Detroit watching?

Draper's visits keep feeding the Dylan Larkin chatter in Montreal, whether anyone admits it or not.

Engstrom has a +2 rating through 5 games, still without a point.

Kapanen, 23, has dressed 4 times and is looking for his first point of the season.

Xhekaj has played all 11 games, and plenty of observers think he's playing very good hockey lately.

The blue line is crowded, and St-Louis has been rotating his defensemen to manage it.

The Canadiens are 6-3-2 and have won two straight.

Nick Suzuki, meanwhile, skated in full gear Tuesday morning in Brossard.

Jim Montgomery's Blues come in at 5-5-1, fresh off a 4-0 home loss to Carolina.

Mason McTavish and Dylan Holloway lead St. Louis with 10 points each.

Detroit, for its part, sits at 5-4-3 after a shootout win in Edmonton on Monday.

Draper's notebook will be full by the third period. Whether any of it ever reaches Kent Hughes' desk is the question Montreal can't answer yet.
