The Bruins are aiming to make a deal for Dylan Larkin, according to a post from OverDrive that points to Darren Dreger.
The Red Wings captain has been the center of trade chatter all day, and Boston is the latest team put in the mix.
OverDrive asked whether the Bruins are the frontrunner for Larkin and said Dreger and the guys on Boston are aiming to make a deal.

The wording leaves room for interpretation, and nothing in it says a deal is close. But the name of the team matters. Earlier today, David Pagnotta's report on Minnesota's pursuit of Larkin said the Red Wings believe they can top the Wild's offer.

Larkin has 2 goals and 4 assists in 10 games this season, both assists on the power play. He is 30 and was drafted 15th overall by Detroit in 2014. He has 649 points in 818 career games, all of it in a Red Wings sweater, as far as the sheet shows.
Why Boston is an odd fit for a first-place team
The Bruins are 11-4-1, third in the NHL and first in the Atlantic Division. They've won two straight, including a 3-2 shootout win over the Golden Knights on Monday night.

| 1. Boston Bruins | 16 | 11 | 4 | 1 | 23 | +20 |
| 2. Montreal Canadiens | 14 | 9 | 3 | 2 | 20 | +6 |
| 3. Ottawa Senators | 16 | 9 | 6 | 1 | 19 | +1 |
| 4. Tampa Bay Lightning | 13 | 8 | 3 | 2 | 18 | +5 |

That is not the profile of a team in a panic. Marco Sturm's group has a +20 goal differential and a 7-1-0 record at home, and it just got goals from Morgan Geekie and James Hagens against Vegas.
Larkin's contract is the real question. His cap hit is $8,700,000 and runs through 2030-31, when he'll be a UFA. Handing that to a 30-year-old for the long haul is a risky call for a team that's already winning, and Don Sweeney would be paying a premium to fix something that doesn't look broken.
Then there's the other side of it. The Bruins trade proposal built around Larkin's say was already making the rounds this afternoon, and it hinges on what the captain wants. Boston may be interested, but Larkin still has a vote.
Detroit isn't in a seller's panic either. The Red Wings are 7-5-3, 17th in the NHL and eighth in the Atlantic, with a 0 goal differential and a 6-2-2 mark over their last 10. They beat the Panthers 5-3 on Monday.
Todd McLellan's team plays at Tampa Bay tonight, and Boston visits Pittsburgh on Thursday. Whether Shawn Horcoff takes a call from Boston, Minnesota or anyone else before then is the next thing to watch.
Should the Bruins trade for Dylan Larkin while sitting first in the Atlantic?
