Dylan Larkin's camp has reportedly shut the door on the Red Wings' request to expand his 10-team trade list.

Detroit wants permission to explore deals with 6 to 8 additional teams, including Montreal, Boston, Los Angeles and Buffalo, after failing to find a deal within the current group. The response came back fast and it was blunt.

According to the report, Larkin's camp told the Red Wings: "No, we gave you 10 teams, which was more than the three teams we gave you at the beginning."

This didn't come out of nowhere. We told you Tuesday that the Red Wings hit a wall in the Larkin standoff, and this reported answer shows how firm that wall is.

The captain is 30 years old and a Detroit first-round pick from 2014, 15th overall. He has 6 points in 10 games this season, with 2 goals and 4 assists.

The Red Wings aren't exactly negotiating from strength on the ice either. They lost 4-2 at Tampa Bay last night and sit 8th in the Atlantic at 7-6-3, with Vegas visiting Thursday.

Why the Red Wings want more teams on the table

The names Detroit wants to add tell part of the story. Boston is 11-4-1 and leads the Atlantic, and the Bruins' pursuit of Dylan Larkin has already been reported. Opening the list would let Detroit work with a team it clearly sees as a fit.

Los Angeles is a different case. The Kings are 30th in the NHL at 4-7-2, and they play San Jose tonight. Buffalo sits 7th in the Atlantic and hosts Ottawa tonight.

Larkin's deal runs through 2030-2031 at an $8.7 million cap hit, which narrows the number of teams that can fit him anyway. That makes a bigger list tempting for Detroit. It also makes the player's answer fair.

Here's the editorial read. Going back to a player who tripled his original list and asking for more is a bad look for a front office, and it hands the leverage to Larkin. If Shawn Horcoff can't find a deal inside 10 teams, the problem may be the asking price, not the list.

Nothing says the standoff ends here. The Red Wings are back on home ice Thursday against Vegas, and Larkin will be in the building while the questions keep coming.
