IceMetrix just relayed a report that the Red Wings would need more than Michael Misa to part with Simon Edvinsson.

The chatter has been building all week, and the Simon Edvinsson trade chatter with four Sharks prospects only got louder as names piled up.

IceMetrix noted that, from Detroit's perspective, Misa alone would not get a deal done for the defenseman.

That's a real line in the sand. Edvinsson is listed on injured reserve because of a contract dispute, out indefinitely, and he hasn't played a game this season. Detroit is still setting a high price for a player who isn't in the lineup.

The talent explains it. Edvinsson went sixth overall in 2021 and has 60 points in 175 NHL games, with a 6'6 frame that teams don't find easily on the blue line.

Misa is no throw-in either. The second overall pick in 2025 has 10 points in 17 games this season, including a power-play goal and two power-play assists.

San Jose is in no position to play hardball. The Sharks are 7-9-1, sit 25th in the NHL, have lost three straight and were beaten 7-2 in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Why one prospect isn't enough for Detroit

The Red Wings aren't in a sell-off. They're 7-7-3, eighth in the Atlantic, and they dropped a 2-1 decision to Vegas on Thursday for their second straight loss. A team still in the mix doesn't hand over a former top-six pick for one prospect.

The Sharks shouldn't overpay either. Giving up a 19-year-old who is already producing, plus more, for a defenseman who hasn't played this season and is tied up in a contract dispute is a bad bet.

The earlier Darren Dreger on Misa for Edvinsson report said the Sharks would turn down that swap anyway. Now both sides appear to agree the price is higher.

And Detroit has other suitors to talk to. David Pagnotta reported the Canadiens have "a lot of interest" in Edvinsson, which gives the Red Wings leverage they didn't have a week ago.

The Sharks visit Minnesota tonight, and the Red Wings are in Colorado on Saturday. The Edvinsson situation won't settle itself while that contract dispute stays open.

Quick hits

UTAH MAMMOTH: Kailer Yamamoto has landed on injured reserve, according to NHL Rosters. Utah now has to find a way to cover that spot in the lineup.

LOS ANGELES KINGS: Zach Dooley reports that Peter Laviolette says Alex Turcotte has progressed back to "day-to-day," with Kevin Fiala not far behind. Good news for a Kings group that wants its forwards back.

TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS: Kirill Marchenko is still out, and Justin Bourne ranked which injury would hurt the Leafs most. Auston Matthews is the name nobody wants to test.

WASHINGTON CAPITALS: The Capitals will debut the Hometown Remix jersey tomorrow against the Panthers, and they're chasing a win at home to make the night count.

OTTAWA SENATORS: Tim Stutzle and the Senators open their homestand Saturday against the Utah Mammoth. Home ice matters more than usual, and there's little margin for error.
