Roberto Luongo took to social media last night to call out Gary Bettman and the NHL's recent decision-making.
Luongo Calls Out NHL For Trying To Block Fleury From Wearing Helmet
Yesterday, the Minnesota Wild played in their Native American Heritage Night celebration. Marc Andre-Fleury, whose wife is Native American, had a special mask designed for the cause, which he wanted to wear during warmups.
Gary Bettman and the NHL, however, took action to stop Fleury from wearing it.
He's bummed the NHL has informed him he can't even wear in warmups
Despite their efforts to block Fleury from doing so, he still wore the helmet during warmups and will pay whatever fine he receives.
Luongo Speaks Out Against the NHL For Decision To Fine Fleury For Mask
Former NHL Goaltender Roberto Luongo took to social media yesterday to also air his grievances with the NHL. In a post, he questions what the NHL is doing trying to block players from supporting causes near to them.
Luongo is right. The facemask is commonly used by goaltenders to display things that matter to them. Usually in the form of quotes or symbolic animals, however, it is hard to draw the line.
The NHL and NHLPA will need to find a common ground agreement that clears up the mess that Bettman and the NHL have created.
