Jack Campbell is in the second year of his five-year $25-million contract. To say this year has been expected on his, and the Oilers' front, would be a massive understatement. On Tuesday night, Campbell let in a brutal goal.

Penalty shot stop turns into an embarrassing goal for Campbell

Jack Campbell is currently playing for the Bakerfield Condors of the AHL after an early season demotion from the Edmonton Oilers due to his poor play. On Tuesday night, against the Calgary Wranglers, this happened:

Drew it up that way!

The Condors lost the game 2-1 and that goal was the opening goal of the game. Campbell turned aside 30 of 32 shots, so he still played quite well. Despite playing well the internet had a laugh:

That is defenceman Jonathan Aspirot scoring a conical penalty shot goal on Jack Campbell.

Oh that's so unfortunate

Jack Campbells season in a nutshell 💀💀

As much as people are making fun of him online for this goal, Campbell has really rebounded in the AHL and if not for the Oilers' salary cap he would likely be back up in the NHL.

Jack Campbell's downfall this season and his rebound in the AHL

To say Jack Campbell's start to the season was anything less than horrendous would be an understatement. In his first five games he had one win and a 0.873 save percentage (sv%). He could not be trusted to be started so the Oilers waived him.

His first three AHL starts were brutal as well. He lost all three games and had a 0.818 sv%. However since that stretch he has only had six games with a sv% below 0.900, of the remaining 26 games he played in. Overall he has a 0.920 sv% in the AHL right now, good for __ overall, with 16 wins, and three shut outs. All of this on a middle of the pack Bakerfield team is honestly quite impressive.

If not for the Oilers' salary cap troubles, there is a legitimate argument that Campbell could be in the NHL right now.
