San Jose Sharks top prospect Quentin Musty refuses to report to junior team: trade imminent
Quentin Musty is one of the most talented players in junior hockey this season, but it appears as though he won't report to his OHL team until a trade happens.
The current NHL is loaded with young talent, with teams like Chicago and Anaheim expected to be great for years to come behind young cores, but it's the San Jose Sharks that may be assembling the best of all. In 2024, the team landed Macklin Celebrini with the No. 1 overall draft pick, but in 2023, they landed two top names in Will Smith and Quentin Musty, who are both expected to be stars in the league one day.
Now however, there's some drama around the latter's name, with Musty reportedly refusing to report to camp with the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL, according to a report from Jeff Marek on X.
Marek states that Musty has been at home in New York since being released from Sharks training camp, and with no desire to report anytime soon, it appears he's demanding a trade from the Wolves. Last season with the Wolves, Musty was incredible, tallying 43 goals and 102 points in 53 games played, but with a lack of elite level talent around him, he seemingly wants to go somewhere else and play alongside top draft talent.
Now, Marek has offered an update on the situation, with Sudbury releasing this statement about the 19-year old;
Right now, all signs point to a trade happening sometime soon, as another team in the OHL would be silly to ignore Musty's incredible talent, but if the Wolves don't get a trade that makes them better, they appear ready to wait this thing out.
