The Columbus Blue Jackets have made some interest decisions as of late, and now they've placed Joseph LaBate, a massive centre on waivers after signing him to a new deal.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are off to a solid start in 2024/25, and while they likely aren't bound for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the team have been plenty of fun to watch through two months of the season.

While their actions with David Jiricek are certainly a little confusing, the team have made some great moves otherwise, and have now made another intriguing move on Friday.

According to the team's social media account, they have signed veteran Joseph LaBate to a one-year, two-way deal, and have now placed him on waivers with the hope that he passes through and once more joins the AHL's Cleveland Monsters.

The 31-year old is a former fourth-round pick of the Vancouver Canucks back in the 2011 NHL Draft, but after playing just 13 NHL games with the team, it appears he's bound to be an AHLer for the rest of his career after bouncing around a few organizations with no new shot at the NHL level.

The veteran stands 6-foot-5 and weighs in at 225 pounds, but unfortunately, the lack of skill to go along with that size and physicality has always held him back from being a potential NHLer.

With five games in the AHL under his belt this season, LaBate has tallied 1 goal and 4 points to along with a differential of exactly 0, so while he's an asset to the Cleveland Monsters, don't expect to see him in the NHL anytime soon.

Because of this, he's likely to go through waivers unclaimed, and with his experience, he'll continue to be a valuable asset to the Monsters as they look to chase the Calder Cup in 2024/25.
