The NHL waiver wire today includes two players, one from the Edmonton Oilers, and the other from the Winnipeg Jets who is looking to terminate his current contract.

It's another busy day on the NHL's waiver wire, with the Toronto Maple Leafs losing defenseman Dakota Mermis to a Western Conference team.

Now comes word that two players have been placed on waivers today, one from the Edmonton Oilers, while the other is having his current NHL contract terminated.

Defenseman Travis Dermott of the Edmonton Oilers is now up for grabs to any team that wants him. If there's no claim, he'll head to the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL.

The Oilers were recently linked to the New York Rangers in a trade involving a 35-goal scorer.

Meanwhile, Henri Nikkanen, a fourth-round pick of the Winniepg jets in 2019 apparently wants out of the organization.

Nikkanen has yet to play in the NHL, spending each season since he was drafted with the AHL's Manitoba Moose. He is on waivers for the purpose of contract termination.

There no official word on what's happening with Nikkanen, but it's highly likely the 23-year-old will end up playing in his home country of Finland.

Winnipeg, who recently hosted the Boston Bruins in a game that saw several fights and even the coaches getting into it, has been having a surprisingly good season, and the chances of Nikkanen getting into the lineup if he stayed would have been very low.
