Auston Matthews has missed the past few games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and now the star captain appears to have suffered a major setback which will lead to him missing more games moving forward.

The Toronto Maple Leafs put together a solid first three months of the 2024/25 campaign, but one thing that has been lingering are the injury issues to captain Auston Matthews.

Now, things are seemingly getting worse, as an update from reporter David Alter has revealed that Matthews did not take part in the team's first skate since returning from the holiday break, signalling that he may be in line to miss another game.

This comes after the captain missed the final few games for Toronto before the holiday break, as he has now officially missed 11 games on the season, with the Maple Leafs still posting a 21-12-2 mark in that time.

It has now officially been confirmed that No. 34 will now miss the Maple Leafs next two games, meaning that even with the holiday break in between, he will have missed four straight games.

This all stems from the upper-body injury that he suffered earlier in the season, and with the captain seemingly never getting back to 100%, it's unclear just how long it's going to be before he can confidently lead this team moving forward on the ice.

Without Matthews in the lineup, the team have still thrived, going well over .500 in games where he has been sidelined, but coming into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they'll need him at 100%, so expect the front office and the coaching staff to be as patient as possible as they look to get their captain fit and healthy for the most important time of the year.
