John Klingberg missed most of last season after he underwent season-ending hip surgery in December of 2023.
Many thought that the now 32-year-old would hang up the skates for good, but that does not appear to be the case.
NHL insider Darren Dreger has revealed that the veteran blueliner is looking to make a comeback after offseason hip re-surfacing surgery, the same procedure Patrick Kane had two summers ago.
According to Dreger, 5-7 teams have expressed interest in him including the Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators, and his most recent club, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Klingberg's analytics from last season are... not good to say the least.
That being said, he was dealing with some serious injury problems so perhaps now he could have a bounce back of sorts.
Of course, it would be foolish to expect him to return to his prime form, but who's to say he can't score at a 40-point pace again?
Klingberg has hit that mark six times in his career, although the most recent time came during the 2021-22 season, which is starting to feel like a long time ago.
However, he has consistently scored at a half a point-per-game pace basically every year of his career, only missing the 40 point mark in seasons where he lost significant time due to injury.
That being said, hip re-surfacing surgery is no joke, and very few players have returned from it unscathed.
Patrick Kane is a good example of this, but he is a bit of an exception as a player and athlete.
Can Klingberg dip into the fountain of youth to revitalize his NHL career? Stay tuned to find out, as we should get an answer to that question shortly.
