The Miller/Pettersson locker room controversy has heated up even more, after Doug MacLean leaked a rumor about Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko.

There is no Vancouver hockey fan alive now who does not know about the ongoing tensions between Canucks forwards J.T. Miller and Elias Petterson.

Outside of the obvious dip in performance and reduced ice-time, Vancouver has reportedly even had to consider trading Miller away, with the New Jersey Devils named a possible destination.

Unfortunately, while the Canucks' season runs cold, the feuding controversy out of the locker room is only heating up.

On a recent edition of Kyper and Bourne, Doug MacLean implied that the situation has made even goaltender Thatcher Demko not want to play.

MacLean continued on, ridiculing Demko's .762 save percentage performance against the Los Angeles Kings, that lost them the game 5-1.

"I know he's been injured but I mean, I watched last night. I mean three nothing before the game even starts. I mean this guy is the backbone of their team. I mean what's going on with his injury situation? Where's his head right now with respect to playing? I'll tell you they've got to fix a few things in Vancouver real fast and to let it percolate this long is beyond me- is beyond me."

However, when the co-hosts asked him to clarify what he meant, the Canadian sports commentator simply replied that he was stating what he heard and not necessarily definitive.

"Like I'm telling you boys, as Mum used to say- as Fran MacLean, my mother used to say, 'I'm only telling you what I heard, boys, I'm not telling you it's the truth' you know, so make sure you have that caveat. I hear that he's not that excited to get in the net right now and I'm sure it's not the injury because I know the Canucks would make sure that's 100% before he's getting in there, but he's got to be a motivated goaltender. He's the backbone of this team as recently as a year or two ago, I mean, so let's hope that he is 100% healthy and he's ready to play and wants to play."

While there is no proof that Demko is less motivated by the locker room controversy, it is clear that he and the Vancouver Canucks as a whole are not performing like a collective at this point in the season.

With any luck, tensions could resolve by the March 7th trade deadline and Demko could get his game back.
