Connor McDavid has been suspended by the Department of Player Safety after he was ejected for a dirty play last night.

The Canucks and Oilers had a hotly-contested game last night, ultimately leading to a 3-2 win for the Canucks, largely thanks to Quinn Hughes' multi-goal performance.

The final moments of the game were very tense as the Oilers were threatening to tie it up on the final shift.

During that shift, Oilers captain Connor McDavid got tied up with Canucks forward Connor Garland, leading to a tense altercation between the players.

Unfortunately, the referees chose to let the play go on as the two forwards tussled, eventually leading to a violent cross-check from McDavid that caught Garland in the head.

Garland was clearly holding onto McDavid, doing his best to keep him out of the play illegally.

At the very least, Garland should have been called for holding on the play, but unfortunately that was not the case.

This may be part of the reason why McDavid lashed out against him, taking his frustrations out on the forward.

That being said, the referees did respond to his retaliation, giving McDavid five and a game for the cross check.

This morning, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that McDavid would have a hearing for the play.

Now it has been confirmed that the Oilers superstar will in fact be suspended for just the second time in his NHL career.

McDavid will forfeit nearly $200,000 for this suspension, due to his $12.5 million annual salary.

The Oilers will greatly miss his presence in those games, but luckily their spot in the playoffs is all but guaranteed this season so it should not affect their season too much.
