A beloved former coach of the Boston Bruins and legend around the game of hockey as a scout and player, has sadly died at the age of 89.

Just one day after the hockey world lost four-time Stanley Cup champion and Montreal Canadiens icon Marcel Bonin, it lost another beloved member from an NHL Original Six team.

A beloved longtime member of the Boston Bruins remembered by many as a humorous character and great storyteller, has died at the age of 89.

Cam Neely honors Tom McVie

Bruins President Cam Neely issued a statement following the passing of Tom McVie, remembering his incredible contributions to the organization and the game itself.

"The entire Boston Bruins organization is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tom McVie. Tom was a huge part of our Bruins family, having served as a coach, scout and ambassador for more than 30 years.

His hockey mind, colorful personality, gruff voice, and unmatched sense of humor livened up every room he entered and will be dearly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom's family and many loved ones."

While McVie would never suit up in an NHL game, he did have a long career in countless different leagues, eventually joining the ranks of a hockey operations department.

He suited up for or worked with the Washington Capitals, Winnipeg Jets of the WHA, and New Jersey Devils, all in coaching positions.

He joined the Bruins as an assistant coach, eventually moving on to being a scout and, finally, an ambassador for the team. With the club, he etched his name on the Stanley Cup in 2011.

Sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Tom McVie, and to the whole hockey fraternity as they celebrate his life and legacy as a real-life icon.
