The Vancouver Canucks have a huge decision to make on forward Brock Boeser, and now it appears they've offered him a massive new deal.

After trading away J.T. Miller, the Vancouver Canucks roster of the future appears to be taking shape, but heading into a crucial off-season, General Manager Patrik Allvin has some massive decisions to make.

The biggest of all perhaps is the pending free agency and potential extension of Brock Boeser, with fans urging the team to ink the home grown star to a long-term deal.

Now, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli has revealed that the team have made an official offer to the 28-year old winger, starting with a five-year deal that would pay him $8 million annually.

Scoop: The Canucks put a 5-year, $40 million offer on the table, but Boeser is looking for more term in this slow-moving game of 'chicken.' Expect it to heat up this week. The Canucks essentially dared him to go out and replicate his 40-goal season. He's on track for 28 with seven games missed due to injury, which is close to his career average. Now with the increasing cap on his side, he's a younger UFA, and the Canucks are really going to need scoring support if they have designs on competing again anytime soon. Plus they currently have the cap room to re-sign him and it's not a huge jump in AAV compared to what he's currently making.

According to Seravalli, the player wants longer term on the deal however, and with this being their first offer too him, there's a good chance that there's plenty of room for negotiation.

2023/24 was an outlier of a year for Boeser with 40 goals, but given his career average of 28, he's still been an incredibly productive player at the NHL level, and while he may find a bigger deal on the open market, there's a good chance that the two parties here can come to a deal soon.
