The NHL confirmed that Trevor Zegras will face a suspension for an illegal hit he landed on Detroit Red Wings' 6-foot-6 defenseman Michael Rasmussen last night.

Last night, the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks met on the ice-a crucial game in the Red Wings' attempt to distance themselves from the Ottawa Senators in the Wild Card standings in the Eastern Conference.

They ended up winning 5-4 in overtime, gaining valuable points in the standings. On the other hand, they lost the services of Michael Rasmussen, their ninth overall pick in the 2017 draft.

Indeed, he was hit by Ducks forward Trevor Zegras right on the head in a controversial, dirty hit, forcing him to retreat to the locker room with a few minutes left in the second period of the game.

Zegras struck Rasmussen right on the head with his shoulder after the defenseman had gotten rid of the puck in the neutral zone.

The Ducks forward wasn't penalized on the play, while Rasmussen had to miss the rest of the game.

If you missed it, here's how it went down:

It's hard to understand why Zegras wasn't sent to the penalty box or even ejected from the game for what he did.

But according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Trevor Zegras will face a suspension from the NHL for his dirty hit.

Here's what he recently posted on X:

Zegras was limited to only 34 games this season due to a knee injury that forced him to get surgery back in December. He has been struggling offensively this year, scoring only 16 points, including seven goals.

With all the trade rumors surrounding him, the Anaheim Ducks surely hope to see him bounce back on the ice to get the highest possible return for their star forward.

While there's no doubt that teams should be interested in acquiring him, the Ducks won't be willing to part ways with him unless they can get a compelling offer from another team.

Let's just say his value isn't at its highest right now.

Details will follow.
