Navrin Mutter cleared waivers Monday, and the wait is over for the Boston Bruins.
Elliotte Friedman confirmed the clearance in a follow-up post, one day after putting Mutter on the wire Sunday.
Nobody claimed him. That answers the only question that mattered since Sunday afternoon.
Mutter is 25, a 6-foot-3, 213 pound left wing out of London, Ontario, and he already changed organizations once this season.
He played 27 games with the Milwaukee Admirals before finishing the year with the Providence Bruins, Boston's AHL affiliate.
The numbers explain why no team bothered to claim him. One point with Milwaukee in 27 games, a minus-10 rating, and 72 penalty minutes.
Providence got a smaller dose of the same package, 12 games, one point, 23 penalty minutes.

Mutter carries a cap hit of $775,000 through this season and $850,000 next year as a restricted free agent, a number that never scared anyone off.
That's the whole story here. Boston can now stash him in the minors without exposing him to a claim again this year.

Clearing waivers is not a promotion. It's Boston quietly deciding Mutter fits better as organizational depth than as a claim risk for somebody else.
Let's see if he can earn a call-up later this season. If he can adjust to the pace of the NHL, he could become a valuable asset.
