Red Wings fans let Dylan Larkin hear it at Detroit's home opener Friday night, and the Montreal Canadiens have a real interest in what happens next.

Larkin wasn't in uniform, but a big wave of boos came down during the introductions, according to Marqueur.com.

Some fans even wore modified jerseys insulting him directly.

That's an ugly way for a fan base to treat one of its own, and it suggests this relationship is running on fumes.

It's a breakup where the moving boxes are already packed. The only question left is which address goes on the label.

Does that open a door for Montreal? The Marqueur report thinks the humiliation could push him to consider a Canadian team.

Nick Kypreos reported last week that Larkin still had no interest in coming to Canada, even after the Canadiens took a crack at convincing him.

Dylan Larkin trade standoff takes a nasty turn at Red Wings home opener

Larkin first named three teams in June where he'd accept a trade: Florida, Vegas and Minnesota.

Elliotte Friedman later reported that the list grew, adding Colorado, Tampa Bay, Washington and Dallas.

Not one Canadian city on there. Montreal fans shouldn't hold their breath just because Detroit got loud.

Marqueur.com argues the Canadiens have a glaring need at second-line center, and that part is hard to dispute.

The Canadiens have also been asking about Mark Scheifele, per Kypreos, so Kent Hughes isn't sitting still.

Larkin has five years left at an $8.7 million cap hit, per the report.

The Red Wings lost that opener 2-0 to the Rangers, with Dylan Garand stopping all 22 shots. Sean Durzi and Eeli Tolvanen did the scoring.

John Gibson made 19 saves on 20 shots for Detroit, with the second Rangers goal going into an empty net.

Todd McLellan's group visits Montreal on October 10. Whether Larkin is in that lineup is anybody's guess.

The Canadiens, 1-0-0, visit Pittsburgh tonight before home dates with Carolina and Nashville.

Steve Yzerman has a problem that just got a lot louder. Unless Larkin's list changes, Hughes is watching it from the outside.
