Sidney Crosby and Mike Matheson got into it Saturday night as the Montreal Canadiens visited Pittsburgh, and nobody would have guessed they used to be teammates.

Sportsnet posted the clip of the two going at it near the benches.

It started with Matheson chipping Crosby toward the benches.

Crosby answered with a little extra of his own, getting his elbow and glove into it before giving Matheson a chip right back.

In the clip, a crowd of black and white sweaters is pressed against the boards by the benches, with referee No. 14 stepping in and Josh Anderson in No. 17 looking on.

The Penguins' biggest name got the veteran call on that one. If Matheson does the same thing, the Canadiens are the ones playing short-handed.

It's two old roommates arguing over the dishes, and the landlord siding with the one who's been in the building longer.

Penguins' opening goal against Canadiens comes under scrutiny after new details emerge

The Penguins ended up on the power play out of the sequence. They score on that PP.

Is that how it works for a legend in his own rink? Plenty of Canadiens fans will say yes.

Crosby is 39 and carries an $8,700,000 cap hit.

He had an assist in Pittsburgh's 7-0 win in Philadelphia to open the season.

Matheson, 32, is on a $6,000,000 cap hit and had an assist in Montreal's 3-2 win in Toronto.

Anderson had a goal and an assist in that opener.

Martin St-Louis went with an unchanged lineup tonight, according to La Presse.

Filip Hallander, in No. 11, was right in the middle of the scrum for Pittsburgh after a three-point opener.

This was also the night Crosby got his look at Juraj Slafkovsky, after praising him earlier in the week.

Dan Muse's Penguins came in 1-0-0 as well, and they put David Gustafsson on waivers earlier Saturday.

The Canadiens' home opener comes Tuesday against Carolina, while the Penguins host Winnipeg on Monday.

There's no friendship clause on the ice. If these two meet along the boards again tonight, the officials will be watching a lot closer.
