Darnell Nurse left Tuesday night's game against the Boston Bruins injured, leaving San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky facing another concern.

What started as a heated confrontation with Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov ended with Nurse heading to the locker room and never returning.

The two heavyweight defensemen dropped the gloves during the third period, with Zadorov getting the better of the exchange before Nurse went down hard.

The scene immediately raised concerns about Nurse's condition, particularly after he remained out of action for the rest of the contest.

San Jose eventually fell 6-3 to Boston, but the result quickly became secondary to the uncertainty surrounding one of its defensemen.

Warsofsky offered no update on Nurse's condition following the game, leaving questions about the severity of the injury and his availability moving forward.

Sharks face worrying uncertainty after Nurse injury

The fight itself was intense. Zadorov used his reach to control the exchange, while Nurse struggled to establish his footing before going down.

The footage shows Zadorov extending his right arm toward Nurse's head as the Sharks defenseman bends forward during the exchange.

There is also concern about Nurse's head potentially making contact with the ice during the incident, although no specific injury diagnosis has been confirmed.

For San Jose, the timing couldn't be much worse. The Sharks are preparing to begin a six-game road trip, starting Thursday against the Nashville Predators.

Nurse had been skating alongside Michael Kesselring on the blue line, giving Warsofsky an experienced presence in his defensive rotation.

If Nurse cannot play, Nolan Allan could become an immediate replacement option after being scratched against Boston.

That would force San Jose to adjust its defensive pairings while trying to recover from a game in which the Sharks surrendered 6 goals despite generating 38 shots.

The next update from Warsofsky will be worth watching closely. Nurse's absence already changed Tuesday's game, and an extended absence would create a much bigger problem for the Sharks.
