Dylan Peterson gave Jim Montgomery a memorable NHL debut tilt, but his mother's reaction during the fight stole the spotlight.

The St. Louis Blues rookie made his first NHL appearance Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators, with his family watching from the front row. What started as a proud family celebration quickly became an emotional roller coaster.

Late in the third period, Peterson dropped the gloves with Senators defenseman Jorian Donovan. The two rookies exchanged punches in a lengthy fight that immediately caught everyone's attention.

But the television cameras captured something even better. Peterson's mother, Angela, looked increasingly uncomfortable as the confrontation unfolded, eventually putting both hands on her head.

His father, Blaine, had a completely different reaction. He appeared to enjoy the moment, while Peterson's sisters, Justine, Cassandra and Tessa, looked far less enthusiastic about what they were watching.

The Blues eventually shared the family's reaction on social media, turning an already memorable NHL debut into a viral moment that hockey fans couldn't ignore.

The 24-year-old forward had plenty riding on this opportunity. After spending part of his childhood playing minor hockey around Ottawa, making his NHL debut in that same city carried special meaning.

Peterson was selected in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft before spending four seasons at Boston University. His professional journey eventually took him to the Springfield Thunderbirds.

An injury to Dillon Dube opened the door for his recall, giving Peterson the opportunity he'd been working toward for years.

Montgomery deployed him on the fourth line alongside Ross Johnston and Pius Suter. Peterson finished with 8:57 of ice time, four hits and five penalty minutes.

The Blues secured a convincing 7-2 victory, but Peterson's family provided one of the night's most memorable scenes.

For Peterson, it was a first taste of NHL hockey, complete with physical play, a convincing road win and an unforgettable reaction from the people closest to him.

And while his father appeared delighted with the fight, his mother's expression told a very different story about the emotions of watching her son reach hockey's biggest stage.
