A fan conspiracy theory has the Devils landing Dylan Larkin and then Quinn Hughes, all on the heels of the Connor Hellebuyck trade.
The account claimed the Red Wings forward added New Jersey to his list, and that Hellebuyck went to the Devils two days later.
In this version, Detroit would get Nico Hischier for Larkin, and New Jersey would follow up by landing Quinn Hughes.
The post also claimed the swap would save New Jersey $3 million a year.
Fun theory, wrong math. Swapping Larkin for Hischier costs New Jersey money instead of saving it.
It's like a magician's trick that falls apart the second somebody checks his sleeve.
New Jersey did not appear on the list of acceptable Larkin destinations reported by Rumeurs de Transaction.
Conspiracy time:
-Larkin adds NJD to his list
-Two days later Hellebuyck goes to NJD
If Larkin goes, Quinn goes
NJD gets: Dylan Larkin
DET gets: Nico Hischier
NJD saves $3M a year and get Quinn Hughes
DET does the impossible and replaces Larkin

Quinn Hughes and Dylan Larkin to New Jersey? The cap problem behind a massive Devils theory
Larkin carries an $8,700,000 cap hit, while Hischier carries $7,250,000.
That would add $1,450,000 to New Jersey's books rather than saving anything.
Hischier has 5 goals, including 4 on the power play.
He also owns a game-winner and sits at +2.
Larkin has 5 points in eight games.
Quinn Hughes has 13 points for Minnesota on a $7,850,000 cap hit.
Eleven of those points are assists, and the Wild are 6-3-2.
Luke Hughes already carries a $9,000,000 cap hit on the Devils' blue line.
Jeff Marek and David Pagnotta both see Minnesota as Larkin's destination of preference.
New Jersey is 6-4-0 and just acquired Hellebuyck on Friday.
Jack Hughes leads the Devils with 11 points, and Jesper Bratt has 9.
Detroit is 4-3-3 after a 5-2 win in Vancouver on Thursday.
John Buccigross said this week he expects a trade involving the Red Wings forward within seven to 10 days.
Sunny Mehta has already made one blockbuster trade this week.
Could he really have a second one tucked away this soon?
The Devils host Los Angeles on Saturday, while Detroit visits Calgary.
Conspiracy theories are fun in October. This one just needs a calculator before anybody takes it seriously.
Would you trade Nico Hischier for Dylan Larkin if you were the Devils?
