Darren Dreger says the Sharks would say no to a Michael Misa for Simon Edvinsson swap, and the Red Wings would want more anyway.

Speaking on Hockey Sense, Dreger answered his own question about whether San Jose would move Misa. He figures the answer is no.

But he doesn't see Detroit doing Edvinsson for Misa straight up either. His read is that the Red Wings would happily take Misa, then ask for something else on top of him.

Misa played 14:13 Thursday night in San Jose's 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. He had two shots on goal and no points, and the Sharks moved to 7-6-1.

The second overall pick in 2025 has 6 points in 14 games this season and a -4 rating. His entry-level deal carries a $986,250 cap hit through 2027-28, with RFA rights at expiry.

That is a cheap, controllable asset, which is exactly why the Red Wings would want him. It also explains why San Jose wouldn't hand him over for a defenseman who hasn't played yet.

Edvinsson has no games this season and is listed on IR with a contract dispute, out indefinitely. Detroit, meanwhile, has won two straight and sits at 6-4-3 without him.

Dreger noted that Detroit would take Misa but still want something else added to the package.

Why Detroit's leverage on Edvinsson looks thinner than its price

Dreger's framing fits what we've already seen. The Red Wings reportedly rejected a strong Sharks offer for Edvinsson after substantive talks, so San Jose has been at the table before.

A player who is sidelined and unsigned to a new deal can't be priced like a rotation defenseman. Asking for a former top-two pick plus a sweetener is a tough sell for a 23-year-old with 60 career points in 175 games.

Other clubs are circling too. David Pagnotta floated the Kraken as a fit, and Pagnotta's Kraken and Shane Wright idea shows the market isn't limited to San Jose.

Detroit is also winning without him. Arvidsson scored three times in Thursday's 4-1 win over Chicago, and Todd McLellan hasn't had to lean on Edvinsson to get there.

That shrinks the urgency on the Red Wings' side, but it doesn't solve the standoff. Detroit hosts the Blues on Saturday and San Jose faces Ottawa the same day, and neither GM has to blink yet.
