Elliotte Friedman just revealed that Dylan Larkin may be changing his no-trade list, and the Red Wings captain's market could look very different if he does.
Friedman said on his podcast that he mentioned Larkin on Saturday night. He added that he heard there were rumblings the center was going to potentially change his no-trade list as they recorded late Sunday night.
Friedman was careful. He said he hasn't heard anything yet, so nothing is confirmed, and no team or destination has been named in that update.
But the timing matters. The Larkin chatter has been loud all weekend, and a change to that list is the kind of detail that can move a market quickly.
Minnesota has been the loudest name. The Wild reportedly offered Danila Yurov plus multiple first-round picks, the Wild's reported Yurov and firsts offer for Larkin that surfaced Sunday, and they believe the package is a strong one.
Washington is in the mix too. The Capitals are engaged in talks, and Detroit would reportedly want a fan favorite from Washington back.
Why a no-trade list update changes the Larkin market
A no-trade list limits where a player can be sent. If Larkin widens it, more teams can bid, and Detroit gets more leverage in a market that already has at least two suitors.
If he narrows it, the opposite happens, and a team that thought it had a clear path could suddenly be shut out. Friedman didn't say which direction this is heading, and that's the part to watch.
Larkin is 30 and was drafted 15th overall by Detroit in 2014. He has 6 points in 10 games this season, with a +3 rating.
Over his NHL career he has 649 points in 818 games, all of it as a Red Wing according to the sheet's draft and career line. That's a franchise cornerstone, and moving him would be a seismic call for Detroit.
I'll say it plainly: if the captain is truly open to a wider list, Detroit should let the bidding run and not settle early for the first offer that includes a prospect and picks. Teams like Minnesota and Washington can be played against each other.
For now, the next move belongs to Larkin. Any word on that list will land before the Red Wings make a decision on where the offers stand.
Should the Red Wings trade Dylan Larkin if the offers keep growing?
