A new report says Nikita Kucherov could land with the Maple Leafs this summer, and nothing about it is confirmed.

According to RG.org, a source believes Toronto is a realistic landing spot for the Lightning star, who could join Auston Matthews. It follows our reporting from Saturday on Kucherov wanting out of Tampa Bay, and the Leafs are in the mix as they get ready for Utah on Tuesday.

"Toronto is the more realistic option. Not a trade. He will just go there in the summer," the source said.

The report points to a summer move rather than a trade with Tampa Bay. That matters, because it would mean no package of young players and no first-round pick going the other way.

Fans have been working on the trade version for days. A Maple Leafs trade proposal for Kucherov was circulating Friday, built around three young players and a 2027 first-round pick.

A summer arrival would skip all of that.

Why Kucherov would fit this Leafs roster

The production is not in question. Kucherov has 18 points in 13 games this season, with 4 goals and 14 assists, and he is 33 years old with 1,141 career points.

Put him next to Matthews and the top of the lineup gets scary. Matthews has 11 goals and 24 points through 16 games, so the Leafs already have a star who is producing.

The Leafs are 8-6-2 and sit 6th in the Atlantic Division, with a goal differential of +7. They beat Vancouver 4-2 on Saturday, but a team in that spot does not turn down a playmaker like this.

Tampa Bay is not a team in free fall either. The Lightning are 8-3-2 and have not lost at home yet, so the idea of Kucherov pushing his way out is a real storyline for a contender.

Here is the part nobody can answer yet. Kucherov's contract, which carries a $9,500,000 cap hit, is listed as running through 2026-27 with unrestricted free agency at expiry, and no extension is signed. That is what makes the summer timeline plausible, and the Leafs would have to find the room.

Is it a done deal? No. It is one source and one report, and John Chayka has said nothing in the sheet we have. But if Kucherov truly reaches the market, Toronto will be a name to watch when July arrives.
