The playoffs are already under way in the Russian hockey leagues and today we saw a record-breaking performance from an undrafted goalie.

Russian Goaltender Sets Record For Saves In Heartbreaking Loss

The NHL has seen its fair share of heartbreaking losses for goaltenders. A couple of years ago, Stars netminder Jake Oettinger made over 60 saves in a heartbreaking loss in double overtime. However, nothing will compare to what Russian goalie Artemi Pleshkov just did. The 21-year-old stood on his head for eight periods as he kept his club's hopes alive in the elimination game. Unfortunately, the other team finally put one past him, ending the game in 5OT.

HEARTBREAKING LOSS 💔

#SKANeva Artemi Pleshkov stops 125/126 as his team loses in the fifth overtime.

SKA Neva eliminated from the #VHLplayoffs

The Russian netminder actually set a world record in the effort for saves in a game, topping records set in other leagues by nearly 20 saves.

For those wondering, that is a WORLD RECORD for saves in a game ‼️🥅

➡️ Artemi Pleshkov 124 saves #VHL

Alexander Borodulya made 107 saves in the Belarussian Extraliga

Joonas Korpisalo 85 saves in the #NHL

Pleshkov is just 5'10", likely the reason why he was never drafted by an NHL club. However, he has consistently put up great numbers in the Russian system, including in the KHL.

As a result, it is certainly possible that an NHL team takes a flyer on him at some point. Today's performance has likely caught the eye of a few front offices around the league.
