NHL insider Chris Johnston revealed on Thursday that the Leafs head coach had made a rather emphatic speech after the Leafs dropped game four to go down three games to one in the series. It may very well be that Keefe felt his job was on the line, making the rest of the series all that more important. Perhaps this is why he called out his team, putting the responsibility on them to write their own story.
The pressure will certainly be on for both teams tonight. Keefe's job very well could be on the line, but he might not be the only one. After all, the Bruins had a 3-1 lead in the series. The exact same situation they were in last year when they faced the Florida Panthers, eventually choking the series away in game seven. Should that happen again, the team very well could part ways with head coach Jim Montgomery.
One fan put a poll on X, asking if the losing coach in tonight's game will be fired. The options were inclusive, giving fans the option to pick only Keefe should the Leafs lose or only Montgomery should the Bruins lose. However, the vast majority seem to think that whichever team loses will fire their bench boss.
The drama could not be higher. One team will be heroes and they other, losers. One fanbase elated, the other devastated. Tune in at 8PM EST to find out which team will be celebrating tonight.
