If you are active on hockey social media, no doubt you have heard of a Maple Leafs fan known as 'Kurtis from Alberta', a die hard who spends game days in his house enjoying himself in full Maple Leafs gear in a basement that most fans would absolutely love to have. One of the biggest appeals of his content to those fans is his dedication, his passion and of course, his love for the beer that he consumed in most videos, so much so that he had his own made.
While most see this as a great advertisement for the Maple Leafs and a fan that most people around the world can relate too, we may no longer be seeing his content due to a lawsuit from one of the Maple Leafs biggest sponsors. Kurtis may not have named the company, but in his video he revealed that because he consumes beer that isn't from the team, he is being issued a cease and desist to stop doing so in Maple Leafs gear.
Unsurprisingly, most people in the comments were as shocked as Kurtis appears to be, and while there's likely no legal way the team can do this, the threat of legal action is likely too much for someone to go through to stop them, and ultimately, Kurtis appears to be complying. This is highly disappointing from the Maple Leafs as this is one of the most well known and dedicated fans in the entire NHL, and given that he's simply enjoying his time in his own home, it truly makes no sense.
Ultimately, this comes off as a sponsor reaching just a little too far and burning any good will the team may still have, so hopefully this can be resolved and Kurtis can go back to loving the Maple Leafs on social media like only he can.
