The Toronto Maple Leafs were dominated on Wednesday by Columbus, and now the captain has called out the fans in the arena for their energy after one of the best fights in the year didn't result in much support from the very quiet Scotiabank Arena.

Just two minutes into the latest clash between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs, we saw arguably the heavyweight fight of the year in the NHL by two of the league's top names.

With the scores tied at 0, Ryan Reaves and Mathieu Olivier dropped the gloves, and while Reaves went down early, he got back up with both men throwing haymakers back and forth in an absolute thriller.

Unfortunately, it didn't help Toronto too much, as they ultimately ended up falling 5-1, with the first career hat-trick of Adam Fantili the leading cause for the Blue Jackets victory.

The lack of energy in the crowd may not have been the reason for Toronto's struggles, but after the game, captain Auston Matthews was quick to call out the fans for their lack of a reaction to the fight.

«You love to see that. I would've liked a little more energy from the crowd after that. I thought it was a little quiet tonight, especially after two guys like that go at it.»

Unsurprisingly, fans on social media weren't too happy with the comments from Matthews, with many pointing to the high price point of tickets and lack of early success in the game as a reason behind it.

Ultimately, this is a team that's had plenty of success thus far in 2024/25, and while the fans weren't too raucous in this one, if the Maple Leafs can go deep in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, we'll see the crowds get much, much better.
