That score says enough on its own.
The Canadiens walked into Lenovo Center for Game 1 and ripped the Hurricanes apart early, hanging 4 goals in the first period and killing the whole mood in the building.
That is why the crowd shot matters so much.
With 5 minutes still left in the third, fans were already heading for the exits. In a conference final game, at home, down big, that is a brutal look.
And honestly, it was earned.
Carolina got run over.
Here is the crazy clip :
-
Slafkovsky finished with 2 goals and 1 assist. Nick Suzuki added 3 assists. Cole Caufield had 1 goal and 1 assist. Phillip Danault also chipped in 1 goal and 1 assist.
That is not one line getting hot. That is Montreal rolling waves through a team that usually makes life miserable for everybody.
Jakub Dobeš did not need to steal this one either. The Canadiens gave him goal support, gave him structure, and let Carolina spend most of the night chasing a game that was already slipping away.
That is the biggest swing coming out of this opener.
The Hurricanes were supposed to start this series by pressing Montreal with pace, volume, and home-ice control. Instead, the Canadiens grabbed Game 1, won 6-2, and took a 1-0 series lead.
Now the pressure sits on Carolina.
That is why the fan exodus clip hit so hard online. It was not just people trying to beat traffic. It was a building accepting that Game 1 was gone long before the final horn.
In a playoff market like that, fans do not usually leave early unless the game has turned ugly.
This one did.
Montreal looked faster, cleaner, and way more dangerous around the net. Every time Carolina looked ready to settle things down, the Canadiens found another push.
That is what makes this result bigger than one hot night. The Habs did not just steal a low-event road game. They spanked one of the most structured teams left in the bracket.
Now comes the next test.
One playoff blowout does not win a series. But taking Game 1 by a 6-2 score in Carolina absolutely changes it.
Montreal has the lead.
Carolina has the embarrassment.
And the image of fans streaming out with 5 minutes left is going to sit there until Game 2.
