Sergei Bobrovsky is gone from Florida, and one early preseason moment already has people asking questions.
"Carolina with three goals on 15 shots, and you guys were worried Florida would have trouble replacing Bob," insider David Dwork posted after Saturday's game.
That's a rough shots-against ratio for any goaltending group, and it lands right as Florida tries to figure out life without its longtime veteran between the pipes.
Bobrovsky signed with Toronto this offseason, leaving a real void in a crease that helped carry Florida to back-to-back Stanley Cups.
Jacob Markstrom is now the presumed answer in Florida, but he's currently day-to-day and questionable for the start of the season with an undisclosed issue.
Markstrom posted an .883 save percentage across 44 games last season with his previous team, numbers that don't exactly settle any nerves given the uncertainty already surrounding his health.
Akira Schmid rounds out the goaltending group, posting an .893 save percentage in 34 games last season, a reasonable enough backup profile but unproven as a true No. 1.
Why it's too early to panic, but not too early to notice
This particular preseason game leaned heavily on AHL depth rather than Florida's full roster, which tempers how much weight three goals on 15 shots should actually carry.
That context matters. Reading too much into one lineup filled with call-ups isn't a fair way to judge what the real crease situation looks like in October.

Still, this isn't nothing either. Losing a goaltender of Bobrovsky's caliber, then immediately dealing with health uncertainty around his replacement, is a real storyline worth tracking as camp continues.
Florida finished 40-38-4 last season, 25th overall, a disappointing year that already made health across the roster the central theme heading into this season.
Head coach Paul Maurice now has to manage a crease that lost its anchor and picked up a question mark in the same offseason.
Patience is fair here. But if Markstrom's status lingers or Schmid struggles to carry a heavier workload, this preseason moment might end up looking like an early warning sign instead of a fluke.
