Matthew Knies is at the center of an awkward report the Maple Leafs didn't need, tying him to frustration over the Chayka hiring.
The chatter surfaced last night. Pearlo Wisdom posted that the Toronto winger wasn't happy with the move, and the reason he gave is personal.
According to the post, Knies is close friends with Josh Doan. It also claims Doan's father walked as soon as Chayka was hired because of history between the two in Arizona.
Now, a post that opens with "Oh yeah, I forgot" isn't exactly a sourced dossier. But hallway talk has a way of finding its way into a locker room.

This is where the money matters. Toronto carried Knies at a $7,750,000 cap hit through 2030-31, when he's set to become an unrestricted free agent. Now he's going to Columbus.
Five seasons of term, counting this one, is a long runway for any grudge to fester.
The winger earned that deal with a 29-goal season in 2024-25.
He's also been useful in the spring, with 14 points in 27 career playoff games.
The production held up last season, with 66 points. But he went minus-30, a rating nobody in Toronto wants to see again from any player.
Here's the call. The worst thing management can do is shrug this off, but now that Knies is gone, it may be too late.
