It follows Elliotte Friedman's report that Edvinsson prefers a trade over an extension and that his camp isn't talking with Detroit.
The Red Wings, meanwhile, are telling other teams they're still trying to extend him, per Friedman.
Marek's idea has real bite. If Detroit won't move, someone with a need on the back end should at least make the Red Wings say no out loud.
It's leaving a written offer on a neighbor's car after hearing he wants to sell. Worst case, he says no and you're right where you started.
Would Detroit match? That's the whole gamble with an offer sheet, and nobody outside that front office knows the answer.
