Linus Ullmark didn't come out for the start of the third period in Boston tonight, and the Senators haven't said why.

No reason has been given for the change. Until Ottawa says otherwise, it's a goaltending switch without an explanation.

There were a few moments worth noting late in the second. Boston scored on what one fan called a sloppy goal, and Ullmark had his net crashed in the final minute of the period.

The same fan thought he looked like he got hurt on one of the saves near the end of the second. Nothing official backs that up yet.

The timing matters. Ullmark carries an $8,250,000 cap hit and opened the season with a win in Toronto and a .931 save percentage.

This was also a return to Boston for the former Bruin, who went to Ottawa in the deal that sent Joonas Korpisalo the other way.

Travis Green's Senators face a back-to-back with questions in goal

Ottawa doesn't get much time to sort it out. The Senators visit Detroit tomorrow night on the second half of a back-to-back.

Travis Green and Andrew Campbell will want answers fast. A 33-year-old starter missing time this early would test Ottawa's depth in a hurry.

Ottawa should be cautious no matter what the reason turns out to be. Even if he's fine, sitting him in Detroit and letting him reset makes far more sense than pushing it.

Rushing a goalie back on a back-to-back is like driving home on a flat tire because the garage is closed. You'll make it, but you'll pay for it later.

Detroit has its own problems at 0-2-0, with fans staying home. A shaky Senators crease would hand the Red Wings an unexpected opening.

The third period will tell part of the story. The update after the game will tell the rest, and Ottawa fans will be refreshing until it comes.
