Former NHL First-Round Pick Ends Hockey Career at 34

A well-known name to many NHL fans has decided to end his career at the age of 34. An injury suffered back in November is forcing his hand.

Adler Mannheim of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany has announced that Tyler Ennis informed the team yesterday that he was hanging up his skates after a neck injury he received during the Champions Hockey League tournament back in November.

Ennis's coach with Adler Mannheim was Dallas Eakins, who said he was initially shocked by this development.

Ennis was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2008 with the 26th overall pick. He played eight seasons in Buffalo before going to the Minnesota Wild, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators. Ennis played a total of 700 regular season games in the NHL before leaving in 2022-23 to play in Switzerland. This season was his first in Germany, and he completed seven games before retiring, compiling 5 assists in the process.
