Evander Kane punished with maximum allowable fine

During a recent match between the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary, Evander Kane was penalized for slashing Dryden Hunt during the first few minutes of the second period. The NHL Department of Player Safety later decided to issue a $5000 fine to Kane for the slash, which is the maximum allowable fine.

Unfortunately for Kane and the Oilers, the penalty resulted in a goal against the Oilers, bringing the score 2-1 for the Oilers. The next day, the NHL Department of Player Safety made an official announcement on Twitter that Kane has been issued a $5000 fine as additional punishment for the slash.

This $5000 penalty is not a significant fine for a professional athlete like Kane, but hopefully he will think twice next time he wants to slash someone.
