Retired scout Grant McCagg compares Juraj Slafkovsky to Guy Lafleur
The retired NHL scout, Grant McCagg compared the 2022 first overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky to the Montreal Canadiens' legend Guy Lafleur during a recent podcast.
If there's one thing that Habs' fan can agree about yet another tough season to watch, it's Juraj Slafkovsky's impressive breakout season.
After being limited to 10 points and 39 games last season, the Slovak tallies 48 points, including 19 goals, in 79 games with the Canadiens. He's also been playing on the team's first line, with Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki, for the past few months, and played against the opponents' top lines.
Not only does he impress with his scoring and passing abilities, he showed that he can bring a lot of intensity and can make a difference every night.
Grant McCagg, the former NHL scout, mentioned that the last time he felt that way about watching a Canadiens' prospect was when he was a kid, as the lengendary Guy Lafleur blossomed with the Habs.
Here's what he said in an episode of The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro:
The last one that I felt that way about, watched him blossom was when I was like eleven years old, and that was Guy Lafleur.
And, I'm getting that feeling again. And that night especially, and I said it in second period when he had only scored twice, and then you tweeted out, I think he might get a hat trick tonight." - McCagg about Juray Slafkosvky's hat trick in a 9-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers.
If Slafkovsky can achieve only a small part of what Guy Lafleur did, the future will be bright in Montreal.
