Hurricanes set to buy out one of the worst contracts in the NHL
The Carolina Hurricanes have made some good moves in recent times, but after struggling once again, the move to get Jesperi Kotkaniemi looks worse and worse.
After another poor playoff performance, the Carolina Hurricanes may be regretting their deal to ink Jesperi Kotkaniemi to an eight-year deal, but this summer, it appears they're looking to get out of the contract. According to Elliotte Friedman, the Hurricanes are likely to buy him out this off-season, and if that's the case, it's going to save them a lot of money.

According to Capfriendly, if the Hurricanes were to buy him out, it would cost them just $835k for the next 10-years, ultimately saving them a ridiculous $20 million over the course of his contract. Given the production of just 27 points this year and just 1 point in the playoffs, that is a no-brainer for Carolina, who were expecting the former No. 3 overall pick to take a leap this season.
At the time, the contract was seen as a bad move for the Hurricanes, and now it's getting even worse, so with all of those potential savings, it makes sense that they will look to buy him out this summer.
