Islanders Ilya Sorokin gets poor treatment at Hurricanes PNC Arena

The Carolina Hurricanes tried to pull a fast one on the New York Islanders in their first game of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs by not giving Ilya Sorokin a chair.

A lot of people were surprised last night when Patrick Roy pulled a classic switcharoo, putting Semyon Varlamov in as his starting goaltender rather than Ilya Sorokin in game one of the New York Islanders first round 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Carolina Hurricanes. The move left Sorokin literally standing in the aisles.

There's no room for the away backup goaltender on the bench at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, meaning Sorokin had to sit by the Zamboni door. To make matters even worse for him, no one even gave him anything to sit on, meaning he had to stand there.

The issue was eventually rectified when someone got Sorokin something to sit on so we wouldn't stand out even more than he already did.

While the Carolina Hurricanes came away with a 3-1 win in game one, it was necessarily because of Coach Roy's decision on goaltending. Varlamov played an excellent game last night, letting in 2 of 25 shots for a .920 save percentage. Like most coaches now, we won't know who Roy decides to go with in game 2 until right before the game starts.

Game two of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs first round series between the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders will take place Monday at PNC Arena.
