The Montreal Canadiens have been off to a solid start this season, but after two big names have gone down with injury, the team will be forced to make a call up.

Through five games this season, the Montreal Canadiens currently sit at 2-3-0, but given the big injury sustained by Patrik Laine late in the off-season, it's no surprise that they've struggled at points. Now, they're dealing with another huge injury, as the team confirmed on social media that defenseman Kaiden Guhle is dealing with an injury that will force him to be evaluated on a daily basis moving forward.

This may ultimately not keep him out for long, but unfortunately Mike Matheson has missed practice as well, and because of this, the team will be forced to call-up a player from the Laval Rocket in the AHL to fill a void, which they've done by bringing up the controversial Logan Mailloux. In two AHL games this year, the 21-year old blue liner has two goals and two assists, showing that last years performance was not a fluke, and if he can play well at the top level, he may ultimately earn a full-time spot on the roster.

While there's plenty of negativity around this situation, the positive is that it will allow the likes of Lane Hutson and Arber Xhekaj to potentially step up into a much bigger role, and with a young team that's still growing, giving opportunities to young players is the way to go. In a tough Atlantic Division, a run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs was always going to be difficult for Montreal , but if they can get some great play from their young names, with the return of David Reinbacher and Laine expected later in the year as well as the eventual arrival of Ivan Demidov, the future remains very bright.
